Are Your Allergies Worse This Year?

Due to a mild winter, you could be noticing that your allergies are worse this year. It’s important not to ignore them as they can impact your eye health and vision short term.

SYMPTOMS

Typical symptoms can include redness, tearing, itching, and eyelid swell. But keep an eye out for dryness, intermittent or increased blurry vision, and increased light sensitivity as these can be symptoms as well.

DR. HANNAH’S PICKS

You can take the medicinal or non-medicinal approach.

Non-Medicinal:

  • Washing your lids, lashes and face.

  • Wear daily disposable contact lenses if you’re a contact lens wearer. Make sure you use a fresh lens each day.

  • Believe it or not, masking up!

  • Cold compresses can calm things down.

Medicinal:

  • Topical eye drops, inhalers (beware as they can contain steroids that would not be ideal for those people with glaucoma) and orals.

  • Immunosuppressive therapy is also an option in severe cases-see an allergist to discuss.
