The iLUX® MGD Treatment System is an innovative and personalized system that addresses one of the leading causes of dry eye, a condition called Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) - also known as Evaporative Dry Eye.

Did you know? Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) or Evaporative Dry Eye is one of the leading causes of dry eye with 86% of dry eye patients having MGD.

What is MGD? MGD occurs when the glands on a patients’ eye lids get blocked and the necessary oils they produce cannot be released into the tear film, causing patients tears to evaporate before they are able to moisten the eye. While warm compresses, artificial tears, and lid expression may help dry eye symptoms, they may not get deep enough. 

How does iLUX® work? The iLUX® treatment is a natural way of healing the body, and restoring the functionality that will lead to symptom relief. Through the application of light-based heat and compression under direct visualization, the treatment targets a patient's blocked Meibomian glands. This thermal pulsation therapy comfortably expresses the plugged up oil glands that are contributing to your dry eye, and restores gland functionality. This process has been referred to by many patients as a facial for your eyelids.

How long does it take? In about 12-15 minutes, a patients’ eyelids are warmed to the proper therapeutic temperature, and Dr. Hannah is then able to express those stubborn glands.

When should I get it? Patients can get this treatment when they are experiencing dry eye symptoms caused by MGD, as well as a preventative treatment to maintain healthy Meibomian glands.
